Kathmandu, June 6:
The ruling Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic chairman and Home Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar Wednesday said that there was no alternative to the next Constituent Assembly election slated for November 22.
Minister Gachchhadar claimed that the government had decided to announce the new CA election as the last alternative in order to prevent the country from the political and constitutional crisis.
He also ruled out the prospect of the restoration of the CA.
Speaking at a press conference held at the party headquarters in Lalitpur, Gachchhadar stressed on the political consensus among the major political parties to hold the CA elections in the stipulated time.
"I urge all the political parties to convert the Baburam Bhattarai-led government into a national consensus government by joining it," he said.
Stating that the new constitution must be promulgated through the CA, he made it clear that the date may be re-scheduled but the election is inevitable.
Gachchhadar also accused the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML of dissolving the CA without delivering the new constitution.
He alleged that the assembly was dissolved due to the narrow minded attitude of NC and UML on the issue of the state restructuring and federalism."
Reiterating that there was no meaning of federalism without identity and the constitution without federalism, Gachchhadar said that the Madhesi and Janajati communities would not accept federalism without identity at any cost.
Gachchhadar said that senior leader Sarat Singh Bhandari was expelled from the party due to his activities directed against the party.
Senior leader Bhandari was relieved of his party responsibilities on Tuesday.
In protest of Bhandari’s ouster from the party, dozens of his supporters carried out rally and burnt effigy of the party chairman Gachchhadar.
Bhandari to form party
Meanwhile, Bhandari accused Gachchhadar of expelling him in violation of the provisions and rules of the party.
Party chairman Gachchhadar and senior leader Bhandari were trading charges after Bhandari was removed from the post of Defence Minister.
It is believed in the political circle that Bhandari would soon form a new party along with his supporters.
