Chairperson of Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic (MJF-D), Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar has said that the elections to Constituent Assembly (CA) could be the best alternative to resolve the current political impasse.

At a face-to-face programme organized here on Friday by the Reporters’ Club Birgunj, he stressed that election is the best way out no matter what discussions are under way for reinstatement of the CA.

‘The constitution promulgated through the CA could pave the way for forward-looking change in the country’, he added.

Leader Gachchhadar further said that the political parties including Nepali Congress and CPN-UML should not fear to go for elections, as people are the architect of destiny and future of the country.

National consensus is a must whether it is for the CA elections or its reinstatement, Gachchhadar said, adding that, ‘Neither the constitution drafting nor the formation of national government could be materialized without consensus’.

He further said the country is now standing on two major issues – federalism with identity and constitution with federalism – and accused the conventional parties, including the NC and UML of sticking to the stance against federalism with identity.

‘We are not protesting the idea of forming national consensus government but our concern is to finalize the promulgation of federal constitution with identity before that’, he asserted.

Gachchhadar noted that bringing new budget has become a pray to politics due to lack of trust among the parties so that the government is preparing to come up with one-third budget.

He claimed that the Madhes-based parties will unite till the next election.

Meanwhile in Chitwan, senior leader of CPN (UML) Madhav Kumar Nepal has warned of a political confrontation
if Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai refuses oppositions’ call for resignation.

Parties would go to people and the Prime Minister would be ousted by people’s force if he does not tender resignation, leader Nepal said speaking at a news conference organized by Press Chautari Nepal, Chitwan Chapter, at Bharatpur Airport on Friday.

He said the people would take to the streets if the Prime Minister continues to cling to power and the Prime Minister would be responsible for any consequences.

Saying the country was
pushed to a crisis, leader Nepal claimed that Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai has no moral right to announce

date for fresh elections to the Constituent Assembly (CA).

He also ruled out the possibility of CA elections on November 22 and reasoned that elections of local level and parliamentary elections should be done by mid-May 2013.

Leader Nepal was of the opinion that former king Gyanendra Shah also made political remarks due the act of the Prime Minister. He also warned former king Gyanendra not to dream about revival of monarchy.

The UML leader said that no agreement was made to continue monarchy. "Girijababu is no more. I am alive. I challenge him to bring documents, if there were any, to that end."
