Kathmandu, Nov. 17 - Informing about his recent participation in the BIMSTEC summit in New Delhi to the Legislature Parliament meeting of the Constituent Assembly (CA), Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had urged the participating countries of the summit to extend their support in the changed political context of Nepal.

PM Prachanda answered the Parliament Monday after CA Chairman Subash Chandra Nemwang issued a ruling for answering queries raised by the parliamentarians on November 16 about his visit to the summit of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation held in New Delhi recently.

He informed that he, on behalf of Nepal Government, welcomed and committed cooperation towards the treaties against international terrorism, inter-county organised crime, trafficking of narcotic drugs and three regional centers forwarded by the BIMSTEC.

He said that the ‘BIMSTEC Declaration has included the concern of Nepal, as Nepal had proposed for the establishment of BIMSTEC level tourism center in Nepal as per its geo-political structure and possibilities.

The thirteen prioritised areas of BIMSTEC discussion included co-work on common issues, reducing regional level poverty, energy crisis, food crisis, climate change and promotion of the commercial sector, he said.

On the sidelines of the meeting, he informed, he met with Indian counterpart Dr. Manmohan Singh and evaluated several bilateral interests, especially about his last visit to India in September.

Prime Minister expressed satisfaction on the progress made towards implementation of the agreements reached with India during his last visit.

PM Prachanda said, "I talked with Indian PM Dr. Singh about rebuilding or repairing of the Koshi embankments and producing 10 thousand megawatt electricity within the next 10 years in Nepal."

He said that Dr. Singh was positive towards making bilateral committees more proactive on issues of common interests.

He said that the participating delegates of BIMSTEC member country wished for Nepal’s sustainable peace and progress by welcoming significant change made by the nation.

During today’s session, Minister for Law and CA Affairs Dev Gurung, on behalf of Finance Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, tabled Auditor General’s Report-2065 before the Parliament for discussion.

The next meeting of the Legislature Parliament is scheduled for November 25.
