By A Staff Reporter

Kathmandu, April 15

Armed Police Force (APF) registered 3-1 victory over Bansbari Football Club (BFC) while Manang Manyrsadi Club (MMC) defeated Sarasowti Youth Club (SYS) 2-0 to enter quarter final of the British Gurkha Gold Cup Football Tournament on Sunday at Dasrath Stadium, Kathmandu.

In the first match of the day, Santosh Shrestha, Arjun Subba, Ganesh Lawati, Ranjan Bista and Milan Rai netted in the thrashing of Bansbari Club. Pukare Ale was only scorer for the defeating team.

After the victory, APF Coach Janak Singh said that they had prepared well for the championship. "I am very happy that we opened the tournament comfortably. We have changed the positions of the players and they played well with that."

APF will meet Three Star Club in the quarterfinal. Singh said that the quarter final will be difficult for both the team. "I am hoping for good result and work hard to progress." Shrestha opened the account for APF in the eight minutes taking advantage of the poor defense of Bansbari. Arjun Subba doubled the tally in the 35th minutes. He directed the unclear ball that was passed by Ganesh Lawati into the net.

Ganesh Lawati headed the goal to make the score 3-0 in the 70th minute. Ten minutes later unmarked Bista netted for the fourth goal. In the 86th minutes, Ale cut the deficit dribbling past the APF defenders and Rai killed the match with the powerful shot from 20-yard distance in the injury time.

Bansbari Coach, Bharat Lama said that they were playing for a draw against APF but we conceded goals in frequent intervals. "We had not trained for the tournament. Besides the team consists of young players and we just wanted an exposure to them for better performance in the League this season." In the second match of the day, Sulav Maske and Skipper Anil Gurung netted one goal each to guide MMC to quarterfinal.

Maskey put Manang in front in the fourth minutes utilizing the defensive lapse of adversary team. Gurung doubled the advantage for Manang in the 14th minutes. Gurung shot the ball from the 6 yard box in the Saraswoti post but goal keeper Ashok Baral was unable to posses the ball in order to concede the goal.

SYC displayed the technical game frustrating MMC many times from to score and they too failed to net the goal.

Machhindra Football Club (MFC) will take Rani Pokhari Corner Team (RCT) on Monday.
