Nepal Army cruise into the quarter final

Kathmandu, April 19

Nepal Army Club (NAC) defeated the A-division debutants Madhyapur Youth Association (MYA) 1-0 in a pre-quarter final match of the British Gurkha Cup Football Tournament at Dasarath Stadium on Thursday.

The match was forced to extra time as both teams remained goalless till full time.

The man of the match Nawayug Shrestha scored the match winning goal for Nepal Army Club in the 113th minute of the match, while, Bibek Pratap Panta of Madhayapur Youth Association (MYA) was sent off the field for a foul in the closing minutes of the match.

Madhyapur Youth Association (MYA) Coach, Upendra Man Singh expressed his delight over his team’s performance in the match against the brawny Nepal Army

Speaking with journalists in the post match conference Coach Singh said, They played well and they have impressed me and audience too. To play 120 minutes against a team like Nepal Army is very impressive. I don’t have any complaint".

"My boys were tired and couldn’t match the pace of Army Club player", Most of the players were playing their debut top flight match. I am happy for them because they played confidently".

"We will work hard.

Nepal Army coach, Yogamber Suwal admitted that the newly promoted side played their hearts out against them in prequarterfinal match of Cup.

The Army men needed a 113th minute extra added time goal from Nawayug Shrestha to win the match against B Division National League Champions MYA.

"Madhyapur boys played their best. They made us difficult to win the match. It was obvious that they would play with their hearts because they were newly promoted Club and wanted to leave good impression in their first top flight match".

Defending champion of the National League Champion Nepal Police Club (NPC) will take on Boudha Football Club (BFC) on Friday.
