Kathmandu, April 22

Nepal Police Club defeated Nepal Army Club 4-3 in penalty shoot out to advance into the semifinal of the British Gurkha Football Tournament on Sunday at Dasarath Stadium.

The match was decided by penalty shoot out after the regular 90 minutes and added extra 30 minutes ended in goal less stalemate.

Despite of the victory Nepal Police Club Coach, Birat Krishna Shrestha conceded that his team played under pressure against Nepal Army. "We were not up to the mark. We played under pressure", Coach Shrestha said. "However, we win the match which is more important. Results matter more than just keeping ball possession.

Nepal Army dominated the Police throughout the match but faced an exit from the tournament. Tek Bahadur Budhathoki and Bikash Malla squandered the spot kick to hand police the title.

The first penalty for Police from Yogesh Shrestha went above the bar but Parbat Pandey, Suman Subedi, Bhola Silwal and Rabin Shrestha succeeded to convert the kick in the goal.

Raju Tamang, Hiranya Magar and Nawa Yug Shrestha scored three penalty to put Army closer to the win but Police shot stopper Ritesh Thapa stopped Budhathoki’s shot to equalize the tally 3-3. As Army captain and goal keeper Malla failed to score, Police celebrated their victory.

Nepal Army Club Coach, Yogamber Suwal blamed luck for the loss against Police. "The luck didn’t favor us. Performing well we were able to dominate the game but we squandered the goal opportunities."

He said that he was happy with his team played. "I am just unhappy with the result. We should have won the match".
