Kathmandu, April 25, 2012

A lone goal from Bikram Lama guided Three Star Club into the final of the British Gurkha Cup after struggling past Himalayan Sherpa Club 1-0 on Wednesday evening at Dasarath Stadium.

Defending champions had to wait 109 minutes to have a winning goal against Himalayan Sherpa. The regular 90 minutes was ended in goal less draw forcing the match played into extra 30 minutes.

In a 50-50 affair between the two teams, Lama broke the dead lock with the diving header to the ball off Buddha Chemjong that kissed the net putting Three Star Fans into cloud nine. Lama was adjudged man of the match for his feat.

Earlier, Sahukhala missed a couple of chances in the first half from putting Three Star ahead. Sahukhal shot the free kick ball inch above the bar in the injury time while he skyed the ball in one-to-one situation with Himalayan goalie Binaya Shrestha in the 30th minutes.

In his another attempt in 23rd minutes his shot from inside the box was warded off by shot-stopper Shrestha.

Ganesh Khadka also had a try to give Himalayan goal but his powerful strike from outside of the box went straight to the hand of Three Stars custodian Kiran Chemjong in the 22nd minutes.

As the first half, Sahukhala missed another free kick chance in the second half. Biraj Maharjan too had his foot in the ball for the goal but his shot was hardly saved by Himalayan goalie.

The first half of extra time also witnessed several attempts from dominant Three Stars but all went in vain.

Eight minutes after conceding the goal, Khadka had the opportunity to equalize but his shot from the box went to the hand of goalie Chemzong.
