Police gundown MMC to enter final
By A Staff Reporter

Kathmandu, April 26

Yogesh Shrestha scored a winning goal as Nepal Police Club overcame Manang Marsyangdi Club 1-0 to set up the title clash with Three Star Club in the British Gurkha Cup Football on Thursday evening at Dasarath Stadium in Kathmandu.

Shrestha netted the only goal in the 27th minutes giving a clinical finish from inside the box as MMC defenders were caught napping.

Five minutes earlier, MMC had the chance to take the lead but Anil Gurung missed to score from the penalty. Gurung’s feeble spot kick was easily saved by Police custodian Ritesh Thapa. MMC were awarded with the spot kick as Police Dipendra Poudel handled the ball inside the box.

Police Coach Birat Krishna Shrestha said that his players kept their head cool against MMC who were unexpectedly playing attacking game with good performance. "I want to thank my players because they kept their head cool. I am happy that my team entered the final for t first time in British Gurkha Cup".

He said that they will be in the tough time in the final against Three Star as striker Jumanu Rai is badly injured and Bharat Khawas is uncertain to play in the team. He added that Three Star Club is the balance team and best team in the Cup.

Both the team had flurry of chances to score in the both half but except Sherstha no other had their luck with the goal.

After the loss, MMC caretaker Coach, Debu Jung Shahi said that the main reason behind the loss was the penalty kick miss from Gurung. "The turning point was to miss the spot kick. Had we converted the chance, result could have been different."

"Despite of playing better game, we squandered too many chances from scoring," Shahi said.

Besides, Police custodian Ritesh Thapa also shattered our hope by denying us with brilliant performance, Shahi added.
