Kallis aims to play till 2015 WCup

New Delhi, April 29

Top gun Jacques Kallis, who has already featured in five World Cups, would like to play in the next edition as well, in 2015.

The 2015 competition is being hosted by Australia-New Zealand. "That’s definitely a goal of mine... If I can, I’d like to play till the next World Cup," Kallis, 36, told The Telegraph on Friday evening.

Kallis, who is in his second year with the Kolkata Knight Riders, added: "We (South Africa) haven’t won any edition and it would be great if we did so in 2015... It would be nice if I could be a member of that team."

A champion batsman and a very successful medium-pacer, Kallis indicated that he’d be limiting his ODI appearances between now and the next World Cup.

That would be sensible.

Kallis, by the way, is No.4 (12,379 runs) on the list of the highest run-getters in Test cricket. Where hundreds go, with 42 in the bag, he’s second only to Sachin Tendulkar. In ODIs, Kallis has 11,498 runs (17x100).

Just to place his worth in perspective, Kallis has over 250 wickets in both Tests and ODIs.

Asked if he saw himself as a batsman who bowled or a full-fledged all-rounder, Kallis laughed and said: "A batsman who can bowl." ‘Modest’ could well be Kallis’ middle name.
