Punish The Culprits

Four innocent people were killed and several others injured in an explosion that occurred in Janakpur the other day. This cowardly and terrorist act triggered by some criminal elements aimed at terrorising the people must be condemned by all. Whoever was behind this incident and whatever its motive, this is an act of terrorism and a crime against humanity that must not be tolerated by any sane and civilised person. The culprits must be punished severely so that criminals do not dare resort to such violent activities in the future. The act of terrorism is against civilisation, peace, democracy and development, and such act of violence must be nipped in the bud to assure the people of better security of their life and property. Violence and terrorism have no place in a civilised society. We have democracy and a democratic government in Nepal. People have the right to express their grievances in a peaceful manner, and such an act of terrorism is, therefore, against any democratic principle. The people and government of Nepal have always been peace loving and are against any kind of violent and terrorist activities. The government is firm to protect the life and property of the people and has already responded promptly to nab the culprits and bring them to justice. The police have already nabbed some suspects and are carrying out interrogation and investigation, which reflects the seriousness of the government in curbing terrorist activities and ensuring the security of the people. The country is now in political transition and in the process of completing the ongoing peace process. As a transitional period is characterised by instability and poor law and order, unscrupulous elements are trying to take advantage of this situation. However, Nepal’s security situation is not as poor as that experienced by countries that have undergone a similar kind of political transition. The security agencies are alert and doing all they can to maintain law and order. The present act of terrorism must be seen as an isolated incident. Such incidents of terror have also occurred in other countries where the security system is stricter and more effective. There should, thus, not be any doubt about the competence and intention of the security agencies and the government simply because of some sporadic terrorist activity. The way our government and security agencies have been mobilised to go after the culprit must be appreciated. It is hoped that the people behind this heinous crime would be dealt with severely. The government has vowed to punish the culprits and accordingly responded in a quick and prompt manner, it is now the duty of all citizens to cooperate with the government to ensure a better security situation.
