Govt declares four victims of bomb blast martyrs

Kathmandu, May 3: A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday decided to declare four victims as martyrs who were killed in Janakpur bomb explosion on May 30. The blast at Ramananda Chowk of Janakpur had killed Bimal Sharan Kurmi, Jhagadu Dash, Ranju Devi Jha and Suresh Upadhaya. Twenty-eight others were injured in the blast. Emerging from the cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun said that the families of each deceased would be provided 1 million rupees in assistance and the government would bear all the medical expenses of the injured victims. The government promoted Colonel Prakash Singh Bogati to the post of Brigadier General and Lieutenant Colonel Nirman Singh Gurung to Colonel. Similarly, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Armed Police Force (APF) Krishna Kumar Tamang has been promoted to the post of Additional Inspector General (AIG). The cabinet meeting gave approval to the Ministry of Finance to start a programme on physical infrastructure development, energy, income generation and environmental sustainability to be assisted by the European Union. The government also extended the term of the committee formed to probe the killing of Chhidi Yadav of Siraha district, by one month. The cabinet meeting endorsed eight-member delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha for taking part in the Ministerial meeting of Non-aligned Movement to be held in Cairo, Egypt, from April 7 to 11. Likewise, the government formed a committee to make recommendations regarding non-resident Nepalese. The panel is headed by Vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission Dipendra Bahadur Chhetri. Thursday’s cabinet meeting also endorsed the first amendment to the regulations of the Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB). The government decided to give tax concessions of a Land Cruiser vehicle to be given to the Federation of Nepalese Journalist (FNJ) by OHCHR. Similarly, the government promoted Dr. Tara Nath Pokharel and Dr. Gunaraj Lohani to the 11th grade of Nepal Health Services. It also increased import tax in gold by Rs. 2,300 in each 10 grams. Likewise, the government decided to table Employment Assurance Bill-2069 in the legislature parliament.
