By A Staff Reporter

Kathmandu, May 3: Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai Thursday directed the concerned authorities to make necessary preparations to mark the Republic Day between May 27 and 29 in a grand manner. Speaking at a meeting of the Republic Day Main Organizing Committee at Singha Darbar, Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai said that the ceremony should be memorable. “The first Republic Day to be marked after the promulgation of the new constitution has a historical importance. Constructive support from all sides is necessary to make this function memorable,” he said. The government has formed different committees to commemorate the Republic Day on May 27-29. Radio Nepal will organize folk song duets to raise awareness and Nepal Television and other private media houses will also hold different programmes to highlight the significance of the Republic Day. The Republic Day will be marked by organizing a formal programme on May 28 at Khula Manch in the presence of the Chairman of the Republic Day Main Organizing Committee and other members. Nepal Television and Radio Nepal will broadcast the event live. Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur city authorities have started work on cleaning the cities to mark the Republic Day. The president, the vice president, the prime minister, the chief justice, and the constituent assembly chairman will participate in the Republic Day ceremony on May 27.
