Nepal cruise into final

Kathmandu, May 11

Nepal advanced to the final of ACC U-16 Elite Cup cricket tournament defeating defending champions Singapore by a margin of 101 runs in the semifinal match on Friday at Bayuemas Oval Cricket Ground in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia.

Captain Dipendra Chand won the toss and elected to bat first, Nepal posted 240 runs losing nine wickets in 40 overs.

Man of the match Jagdish Chand scored the 53 runs with 6 boundaries and 3 sixes off 24 balls while Nurdhwoj Sen also completed his half century (51) runs. Sen completed his century from ninth boundaries off 60 balls.

Similarly, Aadil Khan and Rupesh Bastola contributed 21 runs each, Skipper Chand made 20 runs, Alfaz Mansuri (18 off 32 balls) runs, Aashif Seikh (15 off 28 balls) and Akash Bista 6 runs.

The Singapore team which was chasing a target of 241 runs was restricted to 139 runs in 36.5 overs.

Jagadish and Aakash Bista grabbed three wickets each while Rupesh Bastola and skipper Chand took a wicket each.

This is the fifth consecutive victory for Nepal who entered the semi finals after defeating Kuwait, Bahrain, Iran and Malaysia in their group stage matches.

Nepal will play against host Malaysia in the final match of the tournament. Malaysia had defeated Oman by 36 runs in the other semifinal of the day to grab a ticket into the final with Nepal.
