Kathmandu, May 12
Nepali Congress (NC) leaders Saturday said caste based federalism was against nationalism and national identity.
Speaking at an interaction organised by BP Koirala Academy, the leaders said that BP’s principles should be followed to keep the country united.
NC leader and former speaker Taranath Ranabhat said that the development of the country was possible only through national unity and strong nationalism and added that caste-based division would not address national problems.
He said that the leadership should give priority to the country and people to develop the country.
He said, "Caste based politics, external influences, internal political conflicts, corruption and non scientific federal
system will pose a big threat to national identity and nationalism."
He urged the leaders to implement the BP Koirala’s policy of reconciliation and national unity and stressed that caste-based federalism would destroy the nation and lead to an internal conflict in the country.
NC leader of BP Koirala Academy Haribol Bhattarai said that BP Koirala’s principle of national reconciliation was essential in the current context to unite the country and establish nationalism.
He said that the parties were not serious about drafting a pro-people constitution and added that the democratic socialism propounded by BP Koirala was the best political system for Nepal.
NC leader Tika Pokharel said that the NC leaders had forgotten the policy of BP Koirala.
"The leadership and followers of BP Koirala should implement the principle of Koirala to keep the country united.
BP Koirala Thought Academy vice-chairman Keshav Prasad Bhattarai said that the current political crisis would be resolved through the principles of BP Koirala.
