Banke, June 25
Soon after the school enrolment programme is over, more than half of students at the schools across the Rapti River are out school. The government school enrollment campaign concluded about one month ago. But, about 71 children of Behanan tole of Matehani VDC-6 have dropped out from their schools.
The number of drop out came into the light after Bheri Environment Group had made a documentary on same issue. According to the group, the village has 115 school going age children from 76 households.
Now, the group has been coordinating with District Education Office, Banke to send these dropped out back to their schools. Kiran Dhakal of the Group said there was a high chance of students dropping out, if the schools rejected to take back these dropped out students. The school and education stakeholders are in a great need of inventing new ideas to stop such drop out from the villages lying across the Rapti River.
The group organised an interaction programme at same village to make aware about the issue of drop out and importance of school enrolment.
Meanwhile, at Dolakha, students of Khimti Project Secondary School at Sahare VDC locked up 23 teachers and employees along with school principal inside their respective office rooms.
The irate students locked the teachers while teachers remained engaged in their protest against the school and education authority without giving much care to study of students.
The students demanded with the teachers and principal that the teaching- learning activities in the school should not be obstructed under any pretext.
