Cabinet promotes, transfers senior Nepal Army officers

Kathmandu, June 28:

The government has transferred a dozen of senior army officers and promoted half a dozen other officers on Thursday.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers decided to promote Brigadier General Nirendra Prasad Aryal to the vacant post of Major General.

The cabinet meeting decided to promote two Army Colonels, Ram Krishna Adhikari and Himalay Bikram Khatri, to the posts of Brigadier Generals.

Briefing about the cabinet decision, Minister for Information and Communications and government spokesman Raj Kishore Yadav said, three brigadier generals of Nepal Army and 10 other Colonels were transferred to different places.

The full list of promoted and transferred army officers are not available from the Army Headquarters, Minister Yadav said.

Similarly, three other lieutenant colonels were also promoted to the post of colonels, Minister Yadav said.

The government also approved the resignation tendered by Brigadier General Umesh Kumar Bhattarai today. Bhattarai tendered his resignation to the Army Headquarters citing dissatisfaction over promotion of another brigadier general who is junior in rank to him.

The government has decided to receive Rs 491 million assistance to be provided by

Asian Development Bank for establishing a service centre for women and children and implementation of school sector reforms project (SSRP) of the Ministry of Education.

For the implementation of women and children service centre ADB would provide Out of the total ADB assistance, Rs. 100.71 million will be spent for establishing Women and Children Service Centre while Rs. 320 million is meant for implementing SSRP.

Likewise, today’s cabinet meeting also decided to approve framework agreement for receiving assistance from the government of the Republic of Korea.
