Rubina Chetri, the skipper of the women’s u-19 cricket team clinched the Player of the Year (PoY) title of the Martyrs Dasharath Chand Brilliant Player of the 2068 on Sunday in capital.
Captain Chettri was honored for her feat in the ACC U-19 Women’s Elite Cup. In her captainship, Nepal completed the hat trick win of the Cup.
Former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand awarded her with the cash prize of Rs 15,100 and certificate.
Similarly, Saroj Maharjan of Kathmandu claimed the best award from the Central Region. He won the individual and team gold medal in the South Asian Judo Championship under 60-kg weight category.
Taradevi Pun from Myagdi became the best player of the western region as she was awarded for her gold medal win in the 1st South Asian Weightlifting Championship held in Nepal.
Likewise, Judoka Rohit Karki from Nepalgunj was adjudged the best player of the Mid-Western Region. He bagged gold medal in the South Asian Cadet Judo Championship.
Champa Thakulla was picked as the best player from Far-Western region for her silver and bronze medal win in the 1st South Asian Weightlifting Championship.
The best players from each region pocketed a cash of Rs. 10,000 each and certificate of appreciation.
The Best player award was distributed annually to mark the Anniversary of the Martyrs Dashrath Chand by the Chand Memorial Trust establish.
Member Secretary of National Sports Council, Yub Raj Lama, president of the trust Karna Bahadur Chand and former minister Lekh Raj Bhatta gave away the prize to the winners.
