Kathmandu, July 5

A two-day national conference of Aadibasi-Janajati leaders Thursday decided to form a new political party for the welfare of the indigenous people.

Condemning the recent activities of the four major political forces, UCPN-Maoist, Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Madhesi Front, in the mainstream politics, the conference, which started here Wednesday, decided to launch the Janajati party as a new political force.

Talking to The Rising Nepal after the conference, chairman of the Aadibasi-Janajati Federation-Nepal Raj Kumar Lekhi said that after the participants of the conference suggested the need of a new political force to represent the interests of the indigenous people, it decided to launch the party.

Accusing the four major political forces of dissolving the CA, the conference stressed that there was no alternative to promulgating the new constitution through the CA.

Reiterating their call for the reinstatement of the CA, the Janajati leaders maintained that the political parties representing the dissolved CA should settle the disputed issues of the new constitution before the reinstatement.

The conference also decided to launch a two-pronged campaign for awakening the Janajati people and boycotting the leaders of the four major political forces from July 16.

Chairman Lekhi said that they were preparing to announce a Kathmandu declaration, with 10 to 12 points in it.

He informed that the conference would make its conclusions public on Friday organizing a press meet.
