Kathmandu, July 6:
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Friday said that its serious attention has been drawn towards pathetic condition of several landless squatters who have been evicted from their settlement.
Issuing a press statement, NHRC said that an investigation was carried out by to find the physical and human loss during the forceful evictions of squatters across the country.
The reports of various human rights organizations have found that the government has been indifferent on the squatters’ issue.
NHRC in its press release informed that representatives from Surkhet, Bardiya and Kapilvastu have presented a memorandum on the issues related to resettlement of squatters and their livelihood.
The group of representatives that was led by "Land Rights Forum" has demanded with the government authority for providing justice to the landless squatters saying that the forceful eviction of people from Surkhet, Bardiya and Kapilvastu districts was an inhuman act and could not be justified from any perspective.
NHRC has demanded with the government to give its consideration to the commission’s report and the recommendations made by it.
It appealed the government to form a national working plan for solving the squatters’ problem and finding long lasting solution to their problems.
