Bhairahawa, Baitadi register victory

Kathmandu, April 22

Defending Champion Region No. 4 (Bhairahawa) and Region No. 6 (Baitadi) registered victory in the National U-19 Cricket Tournament on Sunday.

In the first match of the day, from Group A Bhairahawa eased to 112-run victory over Region No. 7 (Janakpur). Opting to bat first, title holder accumulated 198 runs being all out in 45.5 overs. In reply, Janakpur were bundled out in 36 overs for total 86 runs.

Janakpur bowlers Abhishek Jha took four wickets and Gopal Singh dismissed three batsmen to put Bhairahawa in trouble as holders tottered to 30/3.

After Rabindra Thapa had patience batting 80 ball off 45 runs and Saurav quick fired 43-run Bhairahawa succeeded to post challenging score.

As Devendra Somre and Saurav and Bivek Chaudhary scintillated in the bowling department Janakpur were feeble in run chase. Captain Samir Nepal’s 16 run became the top score for the Janakpur. Bivek took three wickets while Devendra and Saurav each had one batsman dismissed.

In the second match of the day, Baitadi stunned Region No. 5 (Nepalgunj) by four wickets. Baitadi achieved the 148-run target easily in the 27.3 overs for the loss of six wickets.

Opening batsman and Captain Surendra Chan hammered 47 runs off 45 balls with four boundries and one six to comfortable chase the victory target. Though Inamuddit Halwai took four wickets to make Nepalgunj come back in the game but Chandal Rawal (24), Santosh Bhatt (20) and Dipendra Aire (16) thwarted any possibility of turning the table.

Earlier, Binod Lama conceded 26 runs to take five wickets for Baitadi. He was awarded man of the match for his feat.
