Kathmandu, Apr. 29: Former Minister Chiranjivi Wagle was released on Sunday after Supreme Court (SC) decided to give him waiver on his jail term and fine by 20 per cent.
The SC sent him to prison for one-and-a-half years with a fine of Rs. 20.3 million rupees last year on corruption charge. Wagle then surrendered to the court and received a reduced jail term and reduction in fines as per the existing laws.
Wagle's lawyers had filed a petition at the court seeking reduction of jail term and penalty. The joint bench of justices Baidhya Nath Shah and Ram Kumar Shah decided to reduce his jail term by 208 days and the fine by Rs. 4.63 million.
Talking to media persons after the release from Dillibazar Sadarkhor, Wagle claimed that the state did injustice to him by sending him to jail. ''It was a political vendetta.''
