Peace, statute top priority: PM

Kathmandu, April 30

Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai Monday said that the government had given priority to conclude the peace and constitution writing processes.

Inaugurating a function jointly organised by Mathematics Education Council, Nepal Mathematics Society and the Nepal Mathematics Centre here, Dr. Bhattarai said that economic development could be possible only after the conclusion of the historical tasks of peace and constitution.

He said, "Conclusion of peace and constitution drafting will pave the way for the economic movement in Nepal."

He further said that building new Nepal could be possible only through the development of science and technology.

Politics and mathematics were inter-related subjects and the government was ready to support the promotion and development of mathematics, he said.

He said that mathematics was the foundation subject of science and technology.

He said, "Without development of science and technology, development process will not succeed. Mathematics should help develop the science sectors of Nepal."

On the occasion, he welcomed the proposal of celebrating the Mathematical Science Year.

Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai also honoured six university teachers for their contribution to the development of mathematical sciences.

Mathematic teachers Indranath Aryal, Gauri Shankar Shrestha, Dhupa Ratna Bajracharya, Madan Man Shrestha, Ram Lal Sinha and Satya Narayan Rajbahnadari were honoured.

Science and Technology Minister Kalpana Dhamala said that the government had given priority to the development of science and technology sectors and added that the development of science and technology would possible through development of mathematics.

She said that the government was serious to promote the development of technology.

Prof Siddhi Prasad Koirala urged the government to promote mathematics for the development of science and technology.

Prof. Bhadraman Tuladhar, Prof. Madan Man Shrestha and Prof. Ram Man Shrestha said that the government should support the development of mathematic subject.
