Kathmandu, June 1

The UCPN-Maoist has decided to hold its plenum from June 29 to July 1 in Kathmandu. The plenum is seen as significant at a time when the inter-party dispute is intense and the party to chart out a fresh election strategy.

The plenum will be watched keenly from outside the Maoist party as it will have implications for national politics.

Maoist Central Committee (CC) meeting held at the party headquarters at Paris Danda on Friday decided to call a plenum to chart its election strategy and party unity.

In the plenum which will starts on June 29 till July 1, supposed to be participated in by the district committee members including with the dissenting faction.

The establishment faction of the party has appealed the dissenting faction led by Mohan Baidhya for party unity. This plenum is crucial for ending internal differences at a time when the dissenting faction has the feeling of discontent for violation of the line passed the previous plenum held in Palungtar of Gorkha.

Talking to reporters, Maoist vice-chairman representing the establishment faction Narayan Kaji Shrestha said that the meeting decided to hold discussions with the dissenting faction regarding the extended meeting of the party.

The party has flayed the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly stating that it was a part of conspiracy hatched by reactionary forces not thwart the promulgation of new constitution with federalism, Shrestha said.

According to him, the meeting decided to form a broader front consisting of Madheshi, Dalit, Janajati, Indigenous nationalities, Muslim, Women, suppressed groups and backward communities for the guarantee of the pro-people constitution with identity based federalism.

Shrestha said that the party is scheduled to organize a national conference of the party on June 15 to get feedback from the people.

The meeting also appealed the protesting Nepali Congress and CPN-UML to accept the government obligatory announcement of the fresh election.

Meanwhile, the Maoist CC meet congratulated the participants of Lumbini Sagarmatha Peace Expedition Campaign headed by party central member Krishna KC for the scaling of Everest and successful completion of the march.

The meeting also wished prompt recovery of hospitalized PLA commander Nanda Kishwor Pun.
