Pakistan defeats Nepal by 8 wickets

Kathmandu, June 23:

Nepal lost the opening match of ACC U-19 Asia Cup 2012 against Pakistan by 8 wickets at Bayuemas Oval in the Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian on Saturday.

Batting first after losing the toss, Nepal was score 156 run all out in 46.1 overs, with Niresh Budhayair scored top for Nepal with 34 off 85 balls that also included three hits to the fence. captian Prithu Baskota scored 28 off 41 balls including three boundaries, while R Pulami Magar chipped in with 23.

Pakistani bowlers Azizullah and Mohammad Nawaz took two wickets apiece while Zia-ul-Haq, Ehsan Adil and Usman Qadir claimed one wicket each.

Meanwhile, The Test playing nation Pakistan chased the target of 157 runs in 37.3 overs losing two wickets. Pakistani Sami Aslam scored an unbeaten 82 facing 115 balls. He hit 12 boundaries and forged the 98-run opening stand with skipper Babar Azam (48).

Rahul Vishvakarma and Sagar Pun took a wicket each. Nepal conceded nine runs as extras. Sami for his scintillating knock was adjudged the man of the match. Nepal will next play Malaysia on Sunday.

In the other matches played in the day, Bangladesh crushed Qatar by a massive margin of 328 runs. Batting first, Bangladesh scored a mammoth 369, with opening Soumya Sarkar alone plundering 209 studded with 27 fours and eight sixes off just 135 balls.

In reply, the Gulf nation crumbled for a meager 35 in 11.4 overs, with none of the Qatari batsmen being able to score in double figures. Bangladeshi bowler Abu Haider took nine wickets conceding just 10 runs in his 5.4 overs.

Likewise, Sri Lanka registered four wickets victory over Afghanistan. Electing to bat first, Afghanistan managed 129 runs in 34.5 overs. Sri Lanka replied with 131/6 in 36.4 overs.

Similarly, choosing to field first, India restricted the home team to 126 in 39.9 overs. India scored 130/2 in 31.0 overs, registering a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over the home team.

Nepal will face on host Malaysia on Sunday and India on Tuesday.
