Bhattarai govt adopting unconstitutional path: Khanal
By Our Correspondent

Janakpur, July 9

CPN-UML chairman Jhalanath Khanal Saturday said that the announcement of the new election was only a drama staged by the Maoist-led government.

He also said it was not possible to hold the Constituent Assembly (CA) election in the stipulated deadline.

Speaking at the closing session of the Janakpur Zonal meeting of the UML cadres in Janakpur, Khanal said that the Prime Minister was trying to impose dictatorship by creating anarchy in the country.

At the function, Khanal also demanded the resignation of the prime minister.

Stating that Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai had taken a un-constitutional step, Khanal demanded his resignation.

"The Prime Minister announced the CA election without forging political consensus," he said.

He said, "The declaration of the new CA election is only a drama of the government."

He said that as the UCPN-Maoist was also against the election, the announcement of the new polls was only a drama.

He said that the Maoists were polarising and

dividing the nation and it was the duty of all people to save the nation from further polarization and division.

The country was facing a transitional political crisis and the national consensus was the only way to resolve the ongoing political deadlock and end the transitional period, he said.

He said ‘One Madhes, One province’ was not the demand of the Madhesi people as such a demand would divide the nation and the people.

Khanal clarified that his party was not against the federal system.

He said, "The UML wants to establish the rights of all people of the country. We want to establish the rights of marginalised, Dalit and ethnic communities through the new constitution."

UML secretary Yubaraj Gyawali urged the party leaders and cadres to implement the party policy and programme to establish federalism in the country.
