Kathmandu, Dec.15
Coinciding with the inaugural of the 70-MW Mid-Marsyangdi on December 14, HYDRONEPAL has launched a complete news portal site that reports on Nepal’s water resources.
A press statement issued HYDRONEPAL said that the report of Nepl’s water resources could be sited at www.hydronepal.org.
It said that every Nepalese should take responsibility for supporting the government, thus, marking the coming decade as a ‘Decade of Economic Revolution’, and for this willpower among Nepalese people should be raised to exploit water resource for generating hydropower. "This will certainly help turn all our visions into realities," it said.
It said that the PM-headed permanent power committee was yet to be formed. However, the government’s initiative of forming a task force to explore all possible means and modalities for achieving the target of 10,000 MW power in the next 10 years, and security assurances for hydropower projects were some welcome steps.
"The practical perspectives, however, are yet to be seen. It should be well noted that both national and foreign investors will be encouraged by such assurances if brought into implementation."
Nepal’s electricity market in India and effectiveness of foreign investments to develop hydropower in Nepal will be proved with the successful commissioning of 750 MW West Seti, 402 MW Arun-III and 300 MW Upper Karnali.
Shouldering some development responsibilities, the HYDRONEPAL vows to commit for making West Seti a ‘test case’ for Nepalese high-dam projects and Arun-III an ‘experiment’ for Indian investment in Nepalese mega projects.
The HYDRONEPAL is a news portal, principally reporting on Nepal’s water resource development, covering the major areas such as hydropower, drinking water and sanitation, hydro-tourism, water-induced disasters and water transportation.
Experts from various development sectors such as Mass Media, Information Technology, HydroPower Development, Water Resource Management and Water Induced Disasters are associated with the HYDRONEPAL.
