Cooperatives’ credit high in Rupandehi

Credit mobilisation of various cooperatives operating in Rupandehi district exceeded Rs. 5 billion as of mid-January 2012.

According to District Division Cooperative Office, investments made by the cooperatives of the district reached Rs. 5.3 billion during the period.

Now, there are around 640 cooperatives operating in the district.

During the period, savings of the cooperatives from their members and customers have stood at Rs. 3.77 billion. The saving amount in the cooperatives of the district was Rs. 3.1 billion by the end of last fiscal year.

Similarly, the share capital of the cooperatives operating in the district has reached Rs. 465 million.

Rama Acharya, chief of the District Division Cooperative Office Rupandehi, informed that the saving mobilisation of the cooperatives had been increased rapidly in the last two years.

There has been attraction of the people towards the cooperative sector in the district due to the financial and cooperative disciplines maintained by the cooperatives in the district, she said.

With the increasing number of cooperatives, the saving habit of the people has also been increased in the recent years, she said.

Out of 69 Village Development Committees (VDC) and one municipality of Rupandehi district, cooperatives have been established in all the VDCs and the municipality except in four VDCs.

Till now, no cooperatives have been established in Bagaha, Bodhbar, Pokharbhindi and Sakrun VDCs.

Members of the cooperatives operating in the district have reached 123,382 out of which 41901 are women.

There are 50 cooperatives in the district run by women only.
