Three parties hold separate meeting on govt, statute writing

Kathmandu, May 8 Nepali Congress (NC) Tuesday held separate talks with UCPN-Maoist and CPN-UML and discussed about the contentious issues of the new constitution and the latest political development in the country. The meeting of NC and UCPN-Maoist held at Lazimpat residence of Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ agreed to induct the UML in the government to give it a form of the national consensus government. Similarly, the meeting of NC and UML held at the latter’s’ headquarters in Balkhu agreed to come together on the issues of state restructuring and governance system in the new constitution. The meeting between NC and Maoist leaders admitted that some mistake was made while expanding the cabinet and concluded to urge UML to join the government. The meeting also decided to intensify the dialogue among the parties to give the government a consensus form. According to Prachanda’s press coordinator Santosh Poudel, the leaders of the two big parties agreed to resolve the pending issues of the constitution by forging consensus among the parties. The meeting also centered on the issues of state restructuring and governance system and agreed to move forward by making common stance on the highly debated issues in the Constituent Assembly (CA). During the meeting, Maoist chairman Prachand, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, NC General secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula and others were present. Likewise, the meeting of NC and UML leaders also agreed to resolve all the pending issue of the constitution through consensus. After the meeting, UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal told journalists that the two parties were close to naming and fixing the numbers of provinces. He informed that the two parties were ready to accept the identity and capacity based federalism in the new constitution. NC general secretary Sitaula said that the NC and UML were ready to adopt a mixed system of governance and decided to accept the power sharing between the prime minister and president. They also decided to intensify the discussion among the parties to resolve the disputed issues of the new constitution. During the meeting, NC leaders urged the UML leaders to join the government. President Sushil Koirala, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, vice president Ram Chandra Poudel, general secretary Sitaula, leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat and Bimalendra Nidhi were present on behalf of NC while chairman Jhala Nath Khanal, senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, leader KP Oli others represented the UML.
