Sub-committee assigned to prepare questionnaire
By A Staff Reporter

Kathmandu, May 11:

Constitutional Committee (CC) under the Constituent Assembly (CA) Friday assigned the Dispute Resolution Sub-committee to prepare the questionnaire on the contentious issues, that the CA secretariat failed to prepare, before taking these to voting at the CA.

A CC meeting held at Singha Durbar decided to give the responsibility to the sub-committee.

Earlier, the CC had decided to assign the CA secretariat to prepare the questionnaire in cooperation with CC chairman Nilambar Acharya. But when Acharya said that preparing the questionnaire was a complex task, the sub-committee was assigned.

Acharya had tried to prepare the questionnaire seeking help from the secretariat members and experts but found it impossible and suggested that the sub-committee should be given the responsibility.

The top leaders of the parties had agreed to sort out the 117 disputed issues through voting by preparing relevant questionnaire.

The sub-committee was to begin the work from Saturday morning. The CC meeting has been called at 12.00 to discuss the questionnaire.

After preparing the questionnaire, the sub-committee would hand it over to the CC from where it would reach the CA for voting process.

After the meeting, NC Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Poudel said that the sub-committee decided to take the responsibility of preparing the questionnaire after CA secretariat failed to draft them.

"As preparing the questionnaire is complex and requires consensus of the party leaders, the issues will be discussed at the sub-committee," he said.

CPN-UML chairman Jhalanath Khanal said that the contentious issues would be resolved through talks and informed that the leaders had agreed to discuss and resolve the issues of the questionnaire in the sub-committee.

CC member Sarita Giri pointed out the need of amending the procedures to prepare the questionnaire.

In the meeting held under the chairmanship of Acharya, top leaders of the political parties and invitees were present.

The next CC meeting will be held Saturday.
