Kapilvastu, May 12
The productivity of land has been deteriorating in the recent years due to an increased use of chemical fertilizers.
Although the chemical fertilizers help increase the productivity of the land in the beginning, its productivity declines gradually in the later period.
According to the District Agriculture Development Office (DADO), the production of paddy, wheat and mustard has been declining every year because of the increased use of chemical fertilizers.
The farmers of the district have been using the chemical fertilizers instead of organic manure for increasing the productivity of the land immediately.
Khursad Ahamad Kha, senior agriculture officer at the District Agriculture Development Office, Kapilvastu, said that the farmers have been increasing the chemical fertilizers to increase the productivity even if it has been declining with due to massive use of chemical fertilizer.
He said that the quality of chemical fertilizers was also degraded due to the wrong storage system used by the traders.
Jagadamba Prasad Pathak, croup protection officer of the District Agriculture Office, said that the farmers have been using chemical fertilizers without consulting with the agriculture specialist, so there is a massive use of the chemical fertilizer that reduces the productivity of land.
According to the DADO, more than 85 per cent farmers in the district use dung for burning fire. That is why, the use of the chemical fertilizers is rampant in the district, Pathak said.
