CC returns questionnaire to sub-committee for review
By A Staff Reporter

Kathmandu, May 13:

The meeting of the Constitutional Committee (CC) that was expected to endorse the questionnaire prepared for voting in the Constituent Assembly to settle the contentious issues of the new constitution including state restructuring and the form of governance Sunday returned the questionnaire to the Dispute Resolution Sub-Committee.

The CC meeting held at Singha Durbar took such a decision after some CC members suggested some review and language correction in the questionnaires.

Emerging from the meeting, CC chairman Nilambar Acharya said that various 30 questions of different topics were sent back to the Sub-Committee as the leaders suggested changes and reviews in their language.

He said that the sub-committee would review the 30 questions as per today’s discussion; however, he did not reveal which questions were being amended.

Earlier on Saturday, the sub-committee had sent 30 questions including on the form of governance, formation of the council of minister, parliament, property ceiling, preamble of the constitution and others to the CC for endorsement.

The CA was supposed to initiate voting procedure in the questionnaires of the 30 issues Sunday.

Following this decision, the CA meeting scheduled for Sunday was put off.

The sub-committee meeting scheduled for Monday would revise the questionnaires and send them to the CC for endorsement.

Although the parties had agreed to finalise the contentious issues by voting in the CA after preparing questionnaires based on ‘yes’ and ‘no’ procedures, the process was delayed due to delay in preparing questionnaires.

Surendra Pandey of CPN-UML informed that the meeting decided to send the questionnaires back to the sub-committees after some members noticed mistakes in the questions.

According to him, the sub-committee would send the revised questionnaires to the CC Monday for approval.

The next meeting of the sub-committee meeting is scheduled for 11 am Monday.
