Kathmandu, May 15:

Nepali Congress leadership Tuesday morning held a discussion with the central committee members and Constituent Assembly members of the party.

In the meeting held at the Maharajgunj residence of party president Sushil Koirala, the leadership informed its CWC and CA members about the progress made in the two-party and multi-party meetings.

Speaking at the informal meeting, president Sushil Koirala said that the party was sticking to its stance on the democratic values, supremacy of the parliament, and independent judiciary.

He also informed the party was clear that the state should not be restructured on the basis of ethnicity.

In the meeting held at a time when the parties were close to sorting out the contentious issues of the statute, the central members supported the stance taken by the party leadership and urged the leaders to reach a consensus without compromising its stance

"Friends supported the stance of the leadership and they hoped that the leadership will take right decisions," said vice president Ram Chandra Poudel after the meeting.

Leader Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat informed that the CWC members and lawmakers suggested that the leadership should stick to its demand for eight or 11 provinces.

According to him, most of the participants spoke in favour of eight provinces.

They also suggested that the leadership should take stance for a parliament elected executive prime minister, said central member Deepak Giri.

The party leaders left for the all-party meeting immediately after the meeting with the CWC members and lawmakers.
