Republic Day observed

The Republic Day in Pokhara was celebrated organizing different programmes. But this year, the celebration was less attractive owing to recent political happening.

However, the absence of the leaders and representatives from political parties made the Republic Day Celebration off colour, participants said.

Following the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly, the leaders failed to turn up at the celebration.

Personnel form the Nepal Police, players, and the people injured in people’s movement took part in the celebration.

They said that the celebration of the 5th Republic Day became less attractive owing to the activities of the political parties that led to the dissolution of the CA without the constitution locals said.

The rally for the day started from Sabhagriha and went around the New Road, Chipledhunga before it converged in Bhimsenchowk.

On the occasion, Bikash Adhikari and Ishwor Pokharel who is president of this Republic Day Celebration main organizing committee put flowers and garlands on the statues of local martyr Bhimsen Dahal.

Jhalakpani Tiwari, UCPN-Maoist in charge of Kaski district, was the only leader present at the celebration ceremony.

Meanwhile the Fifth Republic Day has been marked by organizing various programmes in different districts across the country.

Our correspondents said that a large number of locals, government officials, civil society leaders and dignified personalities of the society have actively participated at the programmes organized to mark the Republic Day.

A morning rally was organized at Chandragadhi of Jhapa district this morning. Officials, students, scouts, police personnel and others were present in the rally that was taken out from Lekhnath Chowk.

Speaking on the occasion, the speakers expressed their dissatisfaction for Constituent Assembly’s failure to draft the constitution during its four-year term.

Coordinator of the District Celebration Committee and Local Development Officer Jiban Prakash Sitaula, Chief District Officer Narendra Raj Sharma and local leaders of political parties also expressed their opinions on the occasion.

On the same occasion, 16 inmates including one woman were released by the government from Jhapa jail.

They had completed more than 50 percent of jail term, said Jail Chief Khagendra Giri. The oldest released was Bir Narayan Majhi, 71.

Similarly, Fifth Republic Day Main Organizing Committee, Kaski, organized different programmes.

A deliberation programme was organized this morning in Pokhara while sanitation, morning rally, blood donation and others were also conducted.
