Janjatis should lead next govt: Gurung

Pokhara, June 10:

Standing Committee member of UCPN-Maoist Dev Gurung Sunday said that the leadership of the consensus government to-be formed should go to leaders belonged to indigenous peoples.

Inaugurating the second convention of the Tamu Media Person Association here, the leader of the dissenting faction of the ruling Maoist party denounced the announcement of election by the government as unconstitutional.

He said that his group would not recognize any government led by anti-federal forces or individuals.

Nepali Congress leader Indra Bahadur Gurung said that indigenous leaders in his party would struggle remaining within the party.

He, however, warned that the indigenous leaders of the party would give it up if the party leadership did not heed to the issues of the nationalities.

Nirmal Gurung, owner of Sagarmatha TV, urged the journalists to stay away from partisan biasness for professional journalism.

Central member of Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) Khim Ghale said that the frequency of attack on the journalists would decrease if the media persons performed their duties professionally.

On the occasion, the Association honoured three Tamu journalists for their significant contribution to the development of journalism. The hounoured are Khim Ghale, Rita Gurung of Nepal Television and Bhim Gurung of Radio Dev Daha, Butwal.

Meanwhile, the convention elected a 13-member executive committee led by Danda Gurung.
